An interesting list of local governments that the Department of Local Government would be watching if they ever undertook any scrutiny.
Although scrutiny appears to be a rather pointless exercise unless some action occurs if there are problems identified. Currently any action is so pedestrian as to be disrespectful to the public. Consider the case of James Trail.
In 2009 a parliamentary committee were told clearly and unequivocally that the Augusta-Margaret River CEO, James Trail, lied to the people of the shire. With one exception the elected members of that parliamentary committee didn’t believe the witnesses. They preferred to believe James Trail.
In 2015, former CEO, James Trail, entered a courtroom and was handed a spent conviction for lying to Council in 2008 regarding contracts for CAMMS software. He continues to work with local governments as a consultant.
Now that a court of law has determined Trail is a man who is prepared to lie should the previous complaints made against him be reviewed? Not according to the current MLC for the south-west, Colin Holt. He was asked to initiated a review and refused to entertain the idea.
